The International Union and Professionals Defense Association holds
its first conference in Tunis
The International Committee for the Defense of Palestinian
Syndicates and Professionals held its first conference in Tunis under the
title: “The Palestinian Syndical and Professional Reality between Occupation
Violations and Refugee Challenges”.
Thus, throughout the twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth of September
2019, the International Organization for the Defense of Palestinian Trade
Unionists and Professionals held in Tunis, under the generous patronage of the
Tunisian Federation of Agriculture and Fishing and the Deanship of Tunisian
Engineers, and in cooperation with the International Association of Palestinian
Professional Institutions and Associations, and in cooperation with the
International Association of Palestinian Professional Institutions and Associations,
its first trade union conference in the presence of representatives from Arab
and international federations and unions and it has included speeches,
seminars, and workshops as well as artistic, folkloric and heritage exhibitions
and exhibitions.
Opening:
The opening ceremony began with the Tunisian and Palestinian
national anthems, followed by a number of words interspersed with two artistic
paragraphs by the artist Abdel Fattah Owainat and Amer Al-Ashqar, while the
artist Salim Assi, with his brush, painted a painting that expressed the depth
of the relationship and interdependence between Tunisia and Palestine.
The words reviewed the rationale for the establishment of the
authority and the need for it at this time and indicated the most prominent
achievements of the authority through a speech by the Chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Authority, Engineer Osama al-Khuraiji, in which he listed the
beginnings and the first emergence and presented the most prominent
achievements, highlighting its present and anticipating its future.
In his speech, Dr. Abdul Majeed Al-Zar focused on the suffering of
the Palestinian trade unionist and professional, demanding that he be treated
like an Arab unionist and professional in his country at work, mobility and
ownership, promising support and support in this field.
In the same context, the head of the International Association of
Palestinian Institutions and Professional Associations, Mr. Adel Abdullah,
stressed in his speech the strengthening of cooperation, coordination and
networking with similar local, Arab and international trade union frameworks,
considering the Commission as a bridge for that, praising the Tunisian role
through the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fishing, the Deanship of Tunisian
Engineers and all frameworks in Insisting on holding the conference, exerting
all efforts and overcoming all obstacles to make it a success, praising all the
unions participating in the founding and newly established and welcoming all
new developments, which constitute a value and a qualitative addition to the
initiative of the International Assembly of Palestinian Professional
Institutions and Associations in launching the International Committee for the
Defense of Palestinian Trade Unionists and Professionals.
The official Palestinian side attended through the representative
of the Palestinian ambassador to Tunisia who spoke about the importance of
trade unionism and its role in the Palestinian national movement since the
Nakba until now, and thanked Tunisia, its people and its unions.
As for the European trade unions, they were present in the opening
speeches, where Louis Blanco, Secretary of the Catalan Alternative Syndicates,
reviewed the suffering of Palestinian trade unionists and professionals in
general and the Gaza Strip in particular, considering the Gaza Strip the
largest prison in the world, calling for breaking the siege and lifting
restrictions on it.
Seminars, workshops and working papers.
The seminars, workshops, and working papers dealt with developments
and developments in the conditions of Palestinian trade unionists and
professionals through reports that were monitored in Gaza, the West Bank,
Jerusalem, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
It also included initiatives, the most important of which is the
necessity of treating the Palestinian refugee just as the Arab citizen in his
country treats what is positively reflected in the life and livelihood of the
Palestinian trade unionist and professional. This came through papers and
interventions by the Palestinian Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Shawqi Subha, and the
former Jordanian Teachers Syndicate, Dr. Husam Misha and the President of the
Forum Palestinian-Lebanese businessmen Tariq Akawi and Eng. Ibrahim Abu
Thuraya, President of the International Society of Palestinian Engineers.
Regarding a media symposium that included most of the Arab and
international trade union spectrum, with the participation of Kuwait, like the
head of the Workers Union at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Saleh Al-Azmi, and
Algeria, with an intervention presented by Professor Abdel Karim Boujnah,
National Secretary of the Education Syndicate and Morocco through Eng. Muhammad
Issa and Lebanon. The seminar was run by Engineer Mugheer Sinjaba And Germany
in a review of the achievements of the International Association of Palestinian
Professional Institutions and Associations in all its groupings and
specializations through a paper by Dr. Munther Ragab, member of the
administrative board of the association and former president of the Palestinian
Doctors Association in Europe and Spain through Mrs. Assumpta Sandra, Secretary
General and Official Spokesperson of the Catalan Alternative Syndicates and
Mauritania through Dr. Muhammad al-Mustafa, head of the Syndicate of Doctors
Al-Tooth in an intervention focused on the required and desired role on the
Arab and international levels to support and support Palestinian trade
unionists and professionals.
In parallel, four workshops were held for doctors, engineers,
teachers and lawyers, in which the attendees discussed a number of initiatives
and projects that could be completed to serve the Palestinian trade unionists
and professionals, and they made clear recommendations in this regard.
The conference was distinguished by the expansion of the Commission’s
work by joining new members in line with its vision of increasing the number of
its members and mobilizing the largest possible number of Arab and
international federations and unions to defend Palestinian trade unionists and
professionals all over the world.
The meeting decided to continue work and strive hard to alleviate
the suffering of Palestinian trade unionists and professionals and to achieve
their civil, social and economic rights in accordance with the laws and
relevant decisions.
Signing protocols:
During the conference, a number of agreements and protocols were
signed for joint cooperation between a number of Palestinian trade union
frameworks and their Arab and international counterparts that would pursue
coordination and networking to serve the Palestinian community and its trade
union and labor groups.
